NEIL REDDEKOPP
Senior Counsel
Dr. Neil Reddekopp has been with Maurice Law since 2020, bringing over four decades of experience in the research, presentation, negotiation, litigation, settlement, and implementation of Specific Claims
He has been actively engaged in this field since 1978. From 1983 to 2007, Dr. Reddekopp served with the Government of Alberta, ultimately holding the position of Assistant Deputy Minister of Land and Resource Issues within Alberta Aboriginal Affairs. From 2007 to 2009, he served as Senior Advisor to the Deputy Minister of Indian Affairs, where he was instrumental in developing a method to eliminate a backlog of nearly 1,000 Specific Claims awaiting assessment by the Crown. Since returning to private practice, Dr. Reddekopp has filed six claims with the Specific Claims Tribunal—all of which have been accepted for negotiation or successfully settled. He was also part of the negotiation team that achieved the settlement of the Lubicon Lake Band land claim.
At Maurice Law, Dr. Reddekopp plays a key role in the research and preparation of Specific Claims seeking Treaty land and benefits for submission to Indigenous Services Canada, the Specific Claims Tribunal, or the courts. He continues to support clients through the full lifecycle of their claims, from negotiation and settlement to implementation following favorable judgments.
