Partner

Sheryl joined Maurice Law in 2006 after being called to the Bar of the Law Society of Alberta in 2004. Prior to joining Maurice Law, she gained valuable experience at a consulting firm, where she engaged First Nations in consultation for major resource development projects. Sheryl also served as general counsel for a large First Nation, advising on a range of corporate and commercial matters, including contract drafting, business structure development, health and child welfare, and Tribal governance and administration.

At Maurice Law, Sheryl represents First Nations clients across Canada in resolving Specific Claims. Her practice focuses on Treaty and Aboriginal rights issues, particularly the negotiation and litigation of Specific Claims arising from unlawful surrenders and expropriations of reserve land. Sheryl’s practice focuses largely on Saskatchewan-based First Nations. Sheryl has appeared before the Specific Claims Tribunal, the Federal Court of Canada, and the Federal Court of Appeal.

Sheryl is of Blackfoot heritage, from the Blood Tribe in southern Alberta, and Pueblo heritage, from the Pueblo Indian Nation of Taos Pueblo, New Mexico. Her deep connection to First Nations communities provides her with invaluable insight into the issues facing Maurice Law’s clients.
