STEVE CAREY
Partner
Steve Carey is a Partner at Maurice Law, where his practice is dedicated to advancing Specific Claims on behalf of First Nations across Canada. With deep experience in Indigenous law and a long-standing commitment to justice and reconciliation, Steve represents First Nations in complex negotiations with the federal government and in proceedings before the Specific Claims Tribunal.
Steve’s work is grounded in a detailed understanding of historical grievances, treaty rights, and the legal mechanisms available to seek redress for breaches of the Crown’s fiduciary and legal obligations. He takes a collaborative, client-centered approach to advocacy—working closely with leadership, advisors, and community members to ensure their voices are heard and their interests are fully represented.
As a senior member of the Maurice Law team, Steve plays a key role in guiding First Nations through the technical, legal, and strategic aspects of the Specific Claims process. His advocacy is driven by respect for Indigenous self-determination and a belief in the importance of meaningful legal remedies to support lasting change.
