Shelby joined Maurice Law as a summer student in 2019. Prior to law school, Shelby was a middle-years teacher. During this time, she received her Post-Degree Certificate in Special Education and Psychology which included a thesis project on Functional Behaviour Assessments.
Shelby received her Juris Doctor with Distinction from the University of Saskatchewan where she focused on Aboriginal law. She was awarded the Eldon Woolliams scholarship.
After her first year of law school, Shelby was a research assistant for Dr. Jamie Lavallee where she assisted in developing material for the course Kwayeskastasowin Setting Things Right. During the Fall of 2019, Shelby was a teaching assistant for the course. She also volunteered with Pro Bono Students of Canada and the Gladue Awareness Project.
In her second year of law school, Shelby participated in the Western Moot Trial Advocacy Competition. Her team placed third in the MacIntyre Cup and advanced to the national event, the Sopinka Cup. Shelby also participated in the Kawaskimhon Moot where she had the chance to draft COVID-19 legislation for a Métis Nation. Shelby was a member of the Dean’s Forum on Access to Justice in her final year of law school.
