Susannah joined Maurice Law as an articling student in May 2020 after completing her Bachelor of Laws at the University of Edinburgh in Scotland, and her Masters of Law at the London School of Economics and Political Science. Susannah’s dissertation titled “Defining Terrorism with Domestic Legislation: The Prosecution of Terrorism at The Special Tribunal for Lebanon,” explored her interest in International Criminal Law and Human Rights Law, while examining terrorism laws at an international level.
Prior to Law School Susannah attended the University of Calgary for her Bachelor of Arts in Political Science. While studying in Calgary, Susannah had the opportunity to complete an internship with the Crown Prosecutions Department at the Alberta Justice & Solicitor General’s office. Following graduation Susannah accepted a position with the not-for-profit United Way of Calgary and Area where she worked in campaign funding for educational programs and Aboriginal youth programs.
While Susannah attended Law School she was a Copy Editor for the Edinburgh Student Law Review and volunteered for the LSE Pro Bono Society in London working on research for climate change legislation. Susannah was selected to be a law student intern at the Mechanism for International Criminal Tribunals with the United Nations in The Hague for a three month internship. She worked in the Prosecutions department where she gained practical legal experience on cases for the former Yugoslavia war crimes.
Before returning to Canada Susannah also completed an internship with a tech start-up in Paris France and gained practical work experience in the areas contract law, copyright, and data privacy laws. During her time abroad Susannah was able to explore her love of travel, history and art and is very excited to be back home in Canada to pursue her legal career.
