About the Role
We are hiring an experienced Corporate-Commercial Senior Counsel with 10–15years of experience to lead complex legal matters for Indigenous governments, development corporations, and joint ventures. This is a leadership-track position offering meaningful engagement with Indigenous governance. Although Maurice Law is seeking a candidate in Calgary, Maurice Law will consider applicants from other locations.
Key Responsibilities:
- Provide strategic legal advice on sophisticated commercial transactions involving Indigenous clients
- Advise on the creation and governance of development corporations and trust structures
- Lead negotiations for impact benefit agreements, procurement contracts, and equity partnerships in resource development
- Mentor junior associates and contribute to business development initiatives
Requirements:
- 10–15 years of legal experience, with a focus on corporate-commercial law
- Background in Aboriginal law, including Indigenous governance and economic development
- Proven ability to manage complex files with minimal supervision
- Experience leading client relationships and mentoring junior lawyers
- Superior organizational and time management skills
- Ability to work independently as well as the desire to be in a team environment
- Flexible and adaptable to constantly changing needs within the firm
- Good standing with Law Society of Alberta
