Blair joined Maurice Law as an articling student in December 2019 after completing his Bachelor of Laws (Honours 1st Class) at Bond University in Gold Coast, Australia. His unique personal, professional, and academic background gives him valuable insight into the issues facing First Nation clients.
Originally from Battleford, Saskatchewan, Blair left home at age 14 to pursue hockey at the Athol Murray College of Notre Dame. Over the next five years, he pursued his career across Western Canada, eventually landing with the Onion Lake Border Chiefs. He spent three years with the organization, during which time he also played in many community-hosted rec tournaments.
During his time in Onion Lake, Blair also worked for Beretta Pipeline Construction LP—a 100% community-owned company. At Beretta, he helped deliver several important community infrastructure projects, including the OLCN Phase IV Low Pressure Water Distribution Network Project, Points North Fibre Optic Project, the Moosomin/Saulteaux Lagoon and SPS Upgrades Project, and many others.
After his final season with the Border Chiefs, Blair moved to Australia to pursue his law degree. At law school, he focused his studies on taxation, banking and finance, planning and development, foreign investment, and commercial legal practice. He was awarded Top of Class honours in Contracts, Banking and Finance Law, and Legal Ethics. He interned at one of the Gold Coast’s top real estate and development firms and volunteered at the Bond University Commercial Law Clinic. His honours thesis focused on taxation matters and associated constitutional issues within the context of the Westbank First Nation Self-Government Agreement.
Upon his return to Canada, Blair worked as an Associate Project Manager on the Onion Lake High School Project.
